GENESIS

The merger of the Directorate of Housing & Urban Development with the Punjab Housing Development Board (PHDB) became the first step towards the constitution of Authority. The Punjab Urban Planning & Development Authority (PUDA) constituted under the Punjab Regional & Town Planning & Development Act, 1995 was notified by the government and has been made effective from 1.7.1995. The Authority been constituted for the execution of plans and programmes under the Act and shall work under the directions of the Punjab Regional & Town Planning & Development Board. The Authority has been empowered to acquire, hold and dispose of property both movable and immovable and to contract Urban development functions which include housing, development of estates, planning and enforcement have been transferred to PUDA.

Achievements of PUDA

New Urban Estates
Process of Acquisition of land is at advanced stage for development of new urban estates at Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Sujjanpur, Nawanshahr, Fatehgarh Sahib, Zirakpur and Jalandhar. 666 residential plots allotted to the public recently in the newly developed Hira Enclave, Urban Estate at Nabha. Besides scheme for allotment of 480 residential plots at Sultanpur Lodhi launched on 29.6.2006 has attracted a massive response and draw of plots would be taken out in the near future.

Extension of Urban Estates
Land
Acquisition undertaken for extension of Urban Estates at SAS Nagar at Bathinda.

MEGA Projects
Empowered Committee on Mega Projects has approved in principle 44projects pertaining to Housing & Township in the State of Punjab. These Projects would be developed over an area measuring 10052 acres. Promised investment that would be attracted through development of these Mega Projects is Rs. 29,696.00 crore. Mohali being the most upcoming investment and IT Centre of the State of Punjab ahs attracted the largest number of Mega projects, District-wise position of these projects is as under: -

City Centre, Sector-62, SAS Nagar.
Master plan detailed Urban design architectural controls and landscaping plans finalized. Infrastructure development works are being undertaken shortly.

PUDA Complex
PUDA office Complex constructed at SAS Nagar (Mohali), Patiala and Ludhiana for public convenience. Construction of similar office complexes at Bathinda & Amritsar has already been undertaken.

Patiala Development Authority (PDA)

Patiala Urban Development Authority for the implementation of the various development scheme at Patiala under NCR plan has undertaken.

·Development of 330 acre integrated township at Baran, Patiala.
·Augmentation and upgradation of water supply, sewerage and solid waste arrangements at Patiala
·Revival/redevelopment of baradari gardens at Patiala.
·Development of integrated sports complex over an area measuring 230 acre.

Encouraging private initiative in housing sector
162 licenses granted to private promoters for development of colonies which will add more than 20,000 units to the housing stock in the state.

Mini Secretariats
Construction of Mini Secretariats completed at Jalandhar, Patiala, Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Moga and Sangrur with a view to bring all district level government officers under one umbrella for public convenience.

Tehsil Administrative Complex
Completed at Jalalabad and Nabha

Construction of Sub Divisional Tehsil Complex at Fazilka undertaken at an estimated cost of 350.00 lac.

Swimming Pool and Club House:
Construction of Swimming Pool and Club House at Urban Estate, Phase-III, Patiala undertaken at an estimates cost of Rs. 375.00 lac.

Budget Provision
of Rs. 62711.00 lac for acquisition of land at Khanna, Nawanshahr, Gurdaspur, Sujjanpur, Ferozepur, Zirakpur and Jalandhar.

Budget Provision of Rs. 16155.00 lac for carrying out development work at various Urban Estates.

Budget Provision
of Rs. 5070.00 lac for construction of houses during the year 2006-07.

Land Allotment - During 2005-06 land allotted to 25 schools, 12 sites to PSEB for installation of Power Grid Sub Station, 2 sites for dispensaries.

Land Allotment - 48 institutional sites, 9 sites for nursing home and 156 LIG houses would be allotted during the year 2006-07
